Is that all there is?

There's some talk around stating that it's a major coup for les americains that Sarkozy, the nominally pro-American candidate in the French elections, won fairly handily. I just don't see it. Great that he says he likes American things, but is a president who reads Hemingway really all that likely to send 20K troops to Iraq, or support military action against Iran, or whatever the nutjobs in charge want to do next? I don't see evidence of this.

Mostly, it's a sign of how far our self-expectations have fallen that it's a major coup when a country that should be a major democratic ally elects someone who isn't blatantly anti-American. Woo hoo! USA! USA! USA!

Not to mention the fact that Sarkozy is in favor of increasing the work-week. I hold France up as an example of moderation: working less so that you have time to live better (shop, cook, eat locally; sleep enough; take care of your children; etc.).
